Once again, there is a surge in the inflow into Stanley Reservoir at Mettur, which is overflowing ever since it achieved its full reservoir level of 120 ft on July 23.

The realisation of water in River Cauvery at Mettur which stood at 80,291 cusecs (cubic feet per second) on Wednesday morning dropped to 48,065 cusecs on Thursday. However, the inflow once again started surging since late Thursday evening.

The inflow rose to 61,291 cusecs on Friday morning and further to 69,605 cusecs in the evening. For the fifth day in a row, the entire inflow was being discharged from the dam.

While 68,913 cusecs was being discharged into River Cauvery for the Samba crop season in dozen delta districts, another 900 cusecs was being released in the East and West bank canals of the dam for farm operations in the three western districts of Salem, Erode and Namakkal. The Public Works Department and the revenue teams continue to monitor the situation and have a close watch of the low-level areas on the banks of River Cauvery downstream of Mettur Dam.
