Speaker of the Legislative Assembly Kodela Siva Prasada Rao on Monday attributed increasing institutional deliveries in the State to improved infrastructure in government hospitals and primary health centres (PHCs) in the past four years.

Inaugurating a PHC at Pulimeru village of Peddapuram mandal with Home Minister N. Chinna Rajappa , Dr. Rao said that despite the financial crisis in the State after bifurcation, the government was not deterred in leading infrastructural development especially in the health sector.

“Now, most government hospitals are equipped with modern infrastructure on aw par with the private hospitals. Poor patients from the State are able to get qualitative medical care,” he said.

Exhorting people to avail themselves of the NTR Vaidya Seva scheme to get medical treatment, he said that government hospitals were in no way inferior to private ones.

Pressing issue

Dr. Rao accused the Centre for failing to release funds to the State in an attempt to stall development. The Telugu Desam Party MPs were pressing the Centre to release funds, he said.

Speaking to reporters later, he questioned the Opposition party members who were not attending the Assembly sessions. “The sessions are meant for discussing issues for public welfare. Members of the Opposition are being given the same time in the Assembly as the ruling party members,” he said.

Kakinada MP Tota Narasimham was present.
