The Kerala Congress factions headed by R. Balakrishna Pillai and Scaria Thomas are understood to have deferred their merger plan in the face of differences over finalising positions in the new party.

Leaders of the two parties, currently associating with the Left Democratic Front, had said that they would jointly meet the media on Tuesday to announce the merger plan, but it was dropped in due course following differences of opinion over finalising party positions.

The merger proposal is reported to have been mooted as a prelude to their entry to the LDF. For, both are at present only associating with the front and have not become constituents. Both Mr. Pillai and Mr. Thomas had met Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in Kollam on Monday for discussions.
