The three zones of the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation were created with a purpose to streamline the administration and improve functional efficiency, Transport Minister A.K. Saseendran has said.

Opening the northern zone here on Monday, Mr. Saseendran claimed that the criticisms against the creation of the new zones were made by people who were ignorant of the productive intentions behind the project.

“KSRTC was mainly facing administrative challenges. It will definitely undergo a change with the opening of three new zones,” said Mr. Saseendran. He also urged the civic community to be vigilant against the misleading propaganda against the project.

Meanwhile, A. Pradeepkumar, MLA, in his presidential address, alleged that the Kerala Transport Development Finance Corporation (KTDFC) failed to arrange even the basic facilities for the passengers who reached the new KSRTC terminal in the city. He accused the KTDFC of facilitating unscientific constructions inside the complex violating the approved plans.

“There is not even sufficient space for the movement of buses inside the terminal though KTDFC invested crores for its construction. No proper rest room facility is available for the drivers who are part of long distance services,” claimed Mr. Pradeepkumar. He also criticised that the comfort station facilities were also in a pathetic state now creating trouble for the passengers.
