The State Cabinet on Wednesday decided to allot local bodies in the flood-affected areas of Kuttanad additional funds up to Rs. 3,00,000 for prevention of epidemics. The amount would be sanctioned on the basis of a report from the District Collector.

The Cabinet empowered the Kerala State IT Mission to set up a single window portal to grant permission for telecom service providers and other essential services to dig up roads to lay optic fibre cables. The meeting resolved to enhance the compensation for the families of the two septic tank cleaners and the good samaritan who had perished in the futile attempt to save them from death due to asphyxiation in Kannur in January 2016.

The monthly remuneration for Kerala Sahitya Akademi, Lalithakala Akademi, Sangeetha Nataka Akademi and Folklore Akademi secretaries was fixed at Rs. 50,000. The Cabinet decided to create 92 posts of teachers in the government engineering colleges at Barton Hill, Thiruvananthapuram, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Wayanad, Kozhikode and Kannur. Four posts of Assistant Professors will be created for Government Arts and Science College, Thazhava. The meeting ratified the compensation of Rs. 1.65 crore for Ockhi-hit fishermen.
