Students numbering 1,500 who performed well in Classes 10 and 12 examinations were honoured by former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy at the Mahatmaji Award 2018 event hosted by P.T. Thomas, MLA, here on Saturday.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Chandy called upon youth to never lose hope and be optimistic. Mr. Thomas exhorted them to be vigilant against anti-social and communal elements entering campuses.
Apart from a citation and tree saplings, the students were given books that create awareness on traps in the cyber world, maintaining mental health and the life of Gandhi. They will be also given free vocational training under Central government schemes.
Girls will be imparted training in taekwondo and self-defence by the Sports Council. A green protocol was adopted for the function, organisers said.
