Major Nikhil Rai Handa, accused of killing Major Amit Dwivedi’s 39-year-old wife Shailza Dwivedi, allegedly searched the Internet to ascertain where he could get his car washed in order to destroy evidence.

The police claim to have recovered a knife and his burnt clothes from Daurala in Uttar Pradesh on Thursday.

A senior police officer investigating the case said Major Handa was taken to Meerut on Wednesday morning by a police team and the articles were recovered during the process.

“He was taken early morning and the team stayed there for about six hours. The knife and his burnt clothes were recovered a few km ahead of the Daurala toll,” he said. The police scanned the CCTV footage of the toll plaza, where the accused was seen exiting Meerut at 2.12 a.m. and returning at 2.39 a.m. on Sunday. “He assumed there were no CCTVs at the toll plaza. This was also a way to mislead us initially, as he did not mention leaving Meerut,” the officer said.

During investigation, the police examined his phone and Internet history, and allegedly found that he had searched, among other questions, “where to get cars washed”. “This is crucial evidence in the case,” the officer said.

Major Handa is scheduled to be produced before the court on Friday at the end of his four-day police custody.

Shailza was allegedly murdered on Saturday and her body was found near Brar Square. Major Handa was arrested from Meerut on Sunday for allegedly killing her.
