Officials of the Municipal Corporation of Karimnagar (MCK) have cracked a whip against shopkeepers and vendors encroaching the footpaths meant for the pedestrians, in various parts of Karimnagar town.
The shopkeepers, who have encroached the footpaths at the busy BSNL and Head post office area causing traffic snarls for decades , have been evacuated in a special drive launched by the municipal town planning officials. Similarly, the officials have also removed encroachments of footpaths by the shopkeepers at the RTC bus station area.
Municipal Commissioner K. Shashanka personally supervised the removal of encroachments in various parts of the town on Thursday. The Commissioner also warned of registering criminal cases and imposing heavy fines if the encroachments were not removed voluntarily by the shopkeepers.
He said that the special drive of removal of encroachments would be continued along the 14.5 km stretch of R&B roads and other roads in the town, especially at the busy Tower circle area. He also informed that the footpaths were meant only for pedestrians and appealed to the people not to encroach them by setting up small business establishments etc.
In the meantime, the municipal officials have also issued notices to the district officials over the encroachment of the footpaths by the shopkeepers at the police shopping complex in front of the RTC bus station complex. Similarly, the MCK has also served notices to the Zilla Parishad to remove encroachments from its shopping complex opposite to the DIG office.
