A 20-year-old woman was found murdered with her face and head smashed with a hammer in south Delhi’s Sangam Vihar on Monday.

The accused has been arrested, they added.

The police received a PCR call at 11.00 p.m. regarding the woman’s murder near shooting range check post at Sangam Vihar.

A team rushed to the area and found the woman lying dead inside a room located on the fifth floor of a building.

“On checking the house, the police found a man, identified as Ramvir, sitting on the roof. His clothes were bloodstained. He was detained and brought to the police station for investigation. Later, he was arrested,” said Romil Baaniya, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South).

Met five days ago

During interrogation, the 50-year-old accused, an e-rickshaw driver, allegedly told the police that he met the woman five days ago and brought her to his room in Sangam Vihar.

They were living together but on Sunday morning, the woman went somewhere without informing him.

Fit of rage

After she came back, they had a fight over some issue and in a fit of rage, he hit her with a hammer.

The victim then collapsed but he continued hitting her till she stopped responding. Following this, he fled from the house.

Later, he came back and sat on the roof, the police said.

Confessed to wife

“The accused has estranged relation with his wife who lives in the same area with their 20-year-old daughter. After the murder, Ramvir went to his wife’s house and told her about it. She then called the police and he went back to his house. A case of murder has been registered at Sangam Vihar police station. We are looking for the victim’s family members,” said a police officer.
