Man hacked to death

A 26-year-old mason, Karuppasamy, was hacked to death at Keezha Panangadi in the outskirts of the city on Thursday evening.

Police said that the victim was proceeding to his to house in Vagaikulam near Alanganallur after signing register at the Koodal Pudur police station, to comply with bail conditions in connection with an attempt-to-murder case. Four persons, who came in two motorcycles, intercepted him and hacked with lethal weapons. He died on the spot. Karuppasamy was accused of having assaulted his friends in a drunken brawl on July 4.

The identity of the perpetrators and their motive behind the murder are yet to be ascertained.

Bus passenger robbed

In yet another robbery of mobile phones, unidentified persons snatched the mobile phone of a passenger in a mini bus at Goripalayam junction on Wednesday afternoon. Police said the victim was I. Gnaneswaran of Vandiyur. Tallakulam police are investigating.
