Mahatma Gandhi University (MGU) has decided to make available its certificates issued to the students online by January next.

The move forms part of the ongoing efforts to ease the process of getting various certificates and speed up its delivery through the digital route.

“Steps have been complete to deliver the certificates online to the students by January, 2019. Already, we are issuing certificates related to eligibility, equivalency and migration online as part of the first phase of providing all student services online,” said K. Sherafudeen, Syndicate member and convener of its finance committee.

The delivery of college transfer certificate, re-admission certificate, medium of instruction certificate, course certificate and affiliation certification will be made available online by next month.

Except for the degree certificate that requires the signature of the Vice Chancellor, all other student certificates could be delivered through online in the first phase of the initiative.

Mr. Sherafudeen said that the varsity was working on a proposal to have the electronically-generated signature of the Vice Chancellor on degree certificates. It would cut down the delay in issuing degree certificates considerably, he said.

The registration and online forms will be available on the official website of the varsity. The fee required for each application and the certificate concerned can be remitted online. The applicants will receive text messages/e-mails giving updates on the status of their request. Efforts are also on to provide the certificates on the date of application itself.

A varsity document, which was presented before the government recently highlighting its academic, research and infrastructure gains, showed that steps have been complete to make the enrolment of volunteers of National Service Scheme under the varsity online. The fund management, grace marks and distribution of certificates to them have also been made available online from this month.

The document said that the varsity will extend its online delivery of question papers to its affiliated colleges. The project was first implemented for the postgraduate examinations held since May last. A question bank for its various examinations was also launched as part of the modernisation of the exam wing. It said that the results of the undergraduate examinations were published on the 12th day after the completion of the exams. The students were given grade cards that had 12 security features.

Online delivery of certificates of transfer, re-admission, medium of instruction, course and affiliation will begin by August
