A meeting of officials and stakeholders to review the progress in the implementation of various infrastructure projects in Kottayam town will be held soon, Minister for Public Works G. Sudhakaran has said.
Commissioning the new World Bank-funded bridge over the Meenachil river at Neelimangalam on MC Road on Saturday, the Minister said various departments such as the PWD, police, revenue and local bodies would have to make a concerted effort to secure the roads, built spending crores, from unauthorised parking of heavy vehicles.
“The State government has decided to launch a campaign to free public roads from unauthorised parking and misuse of the space,” he said.
Mr. Sudhakaran said the work on the bridge over the Kodoor river at Kodimatha, which remained stalled on account of the failure to relocate two families, would resume soon. Land would be identified to relocate them immediately, he said.
The technical glitches in the construction of the Erayil Kadavu- Manippuzha road in the heart of the town would also be removed, he said.
He said the stalled work on the parallel road at Pala would be resumed soon. The Rs. 27-crore work got disrupted after it was found that the land underneath the top soil was granite and the work could not move forward on account of the increase in expenses.
