Sharana Kumar Solapur, member of the Kakkera Town Municipal Council, demanded that the district administration distribute life jackets for the residents who are now forced to swim across the river to reach the mainland to purchase household articles.

Meanwhile, the district administration has taken all precautions to alert villagers on the river banks and also requested the Raichur district administration to provide a boat to launch services from the mainland to the island to ensure the safety of the residents.

Deputy Commissioner J. Manjunath told
The Hindu
that the boat is expected to reach the mainland by Wednesday night or early morning on Thursday.

Officials of the revenue and other departments concerned have been asked to be ready to extend boat service to the island.
