The government was continuing the same policy adopted in the past for procurement of eggs for the noon meal centres and there was no secrecy involved, V. Saroja, Social Welfare Minister, said here on Saturday.

Since 2013, eggs were being procured under single window system. The procurement was done in a transparent way and without showing any favouritism, she said.

At present, about 58 lakh eggs were procured for the nutritious noon meal centres every day. No complaint had been received so far either from the parents or the general public about the quality of the eggs.

Dr. Saroja said that the present tender for the supply of eggs for meal centres would end this month.
