The Poojappura police on Tuesday arrested a habitual offender who has been accused of breaking into several places of worship and decamping with valuables.

The police identified the accused as Maniyan alias Vigraham Maniyan or Ambalam Maniyan, 59, of Marayamuttom.

Maniyan was nabbed by the city shadow police during an investigation launched into a theft reported from a temple in Trivikramangalam in Thamalam.

The accused is suspected to have been involved in over 200 similar cases reported from various parts of the State during the last 35 years.

He has also served jail terms for close to 15 years in connection with various cases.

Theft in church

He had purportedly robbed a church in Poovar recently after completing a jail term, following his arrest by the city shadow police in 2016.

Waiting for next move

After having allegedly broken into the temple and stealing valuables, the accused was allegedly gearing up for yet another crime when he was caught by the police, official sources said here.

He has also served jail terms for close to 15 years in connection with various cases.
