AICC general secretary and in-charge of Andhra Pradesh Oommen Chandy, was all praise for Malayalees living outside Kerala.
Speaking to them at a function organised by Kerala Kala Samiti here on Wednesday, he said, “Malayalees living outside Kerala are simpletons, which is the essence of people from Kerala, and they still continue to follow the old traditions. They remind me of my good olden days in my hometown.”
Mr. Chandy, who is on a tour of North Coastal Andhra Pradesh, took some time to meet members of Kerala Kala Samiti, at a programme organised by the current president of the samiti ARG Unnithan and his team. He also said he was on a mission to reform and restructure the Congress in AP and things are settling down after the 2014 rout. He was accompanied by PCC president N. Raghuveera Reddy.
Addressing the gathering Mr. Raghuveera Reddy said he was fond of Kerala cuisine and never missed an opportunity to try it out. Appreciating Mr. Chandy’s humbleness, Mr. Reddy said, “He is a man who was twice the CM of Kerala and 12 times MLA, but yet he is a simple man.”
He went on to say that Mr. Chandy’s was hand-picked by Congress president Rahul Gandhi and was a boon to the party in the State, especially after the party’s setback in 2014 elections. Mr. Raghuveera Reddy said there shall be no government both at the Centre and at the State without Congress support in 2019.
