The Viswadharma Parirakshana Vedika will be organising a massive walkathon ‘Chalo Tirupati – Maha Padayatra’ from Vijayawada on July 29.
Elucidating the details, the organisation’s president and Sri Saivakshetra pontiff Siva Swamy said that their campaign’s main motto was to protect the Hindu culture and traditions alongside safeguarding the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD). “Of late, Tirumala, considered as one of the important religious centres in South India, has become a ‘political refugee centre.’
Despite opposition from various quarters, the State government went ahead with its decisions, hurting sentiments of the Hindus and resulting in the present situation.
Right from the appointment of the TTD Trust Board Chairman to the recent decision to prevent devotees from having darshan of Lord Venkateswara during ‘Astabandhana Maha Samprokshanam’, Tirumala has transformed from a holy centre into a centre of controversies.
Hence, we would like to seek support from everyone to restore normalcy at the hill shrine and elsewhere,” he added.
Siva Swamy said that walkathon would begin from Vijayawada, after offering prayers at Kanaka Durga temple on July 29, and conclude with a public meeting at Indira Maidanam in Tirupati on August 12, traversing through Guntur, Ongole, Nellore etc. He also remarked that several pontiffs from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana would be taking part in the walkathon along with several devotees.
