The Committee on Petitions of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council is going to recommend remittance of salaries to the employees of the public libraries through the treasury under the subhead of 010, according to Reddi Subrahmanyam, chairman of the committee and also the Deputy Chairman of the Legislative Council.

The committee reviewed a petition field by former MLC M.V.V.S. Sarma on payment of pensions to the retired employees of public libraries at the Collectorate here.

Mr. Subrahmanyam said of the nine requests made by the petitioner, seven of them were already being implemented by the government, while the issue of payment of salaries through treasury had to be addressed by the government. On extending medical cover to the employees and pensioners of libraries, he said that an exercise was in progress to bring all of them under the insurance cover being provided by the State government under the NTR Vaidya Seva.

The committee members later visited the Kakinada seaport to get first-hand information about the functioning of the port.
