Thousands of people, including Amarnath pilgrims, were left stranded on Sunday as authorities suspended traffic on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway and the Mughal road connecting Kashmir with the rest of the country.

Director General of Police S. P. Vaid had on Saturday announced the suspension of the ongoing Amarnath Yatra on Sunday in view of the strike call given by separatists to mark the second death anniversary of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani. “Security and facilitation of

is our top priority,” he said.

“No

was allowed to move from the Bhagwati Nagar base camp and those heading for Kashmir on their own were also stopped at various places,” a government official said, adding that it was a precautionary measure.
