Complying with the direction of Commissionerate of Municipal Administration, Tiruchi Corporation has decided to increase the professional tax by 30%.

It will come into effect from October 1. The levy has been revised after a gap of five years. The existing professional tax slabs, which is being collected from October 1, 2013, will come to an end on September 30, 2018.

As per the proposal, there will be no professional tax up to Rs. 21,000 (half yearly income).

The professional tax for those with income between Rs. 21,001 and 30,000 will be revised to Rs. 169 from Rs. 130. It will beRs. 429, from Rs. 330, for those with income between Rs. 30,001 and Rs. 45,000.

For those, who get income between Rs. 45,001 and Rs. 60,000, the tax will be Rs. 858, which will be Rs. 198 more than the existing tax. The professional tax for those with income in the range of Rs. .60,001 and above, will be Rs. 1,250.

that the professional tax was revised once in five years since the Town Pachayats, Municipalities and Municipal Corporations (Collection of Tax on Professions, Trades, Callings and Employments) Rules 1999 was framed.

The revised tax would come into effect from October 1.

The tax would be collected from eligible traders, entrepreneurs, employees of Governments and Government Undertakings and those employed in business houses and industries.
