The government was keen on exploiting the tourism potential of Pathanamthitta and the District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) has already embarked on a series of tourism development initiatives in the district, Water Resources Minister Mathew T.Thomas, has said.

Mr. Thomas was launching DTPC’s Rs. 50-lakh beautification project at the Sathram complex near the Sreevallabha temple in Thiruvalla on Saturday.

According to him, the district has got potential for spiritual and eco tourism development and the DTPC has to play a key role in promoting tourism in the district in a big way.

The Sathram beautification project envisages strengthening of the compound walls and sculpting Kathakali images on it.

Concrete pavers would be laid at the premises.

Mr. Thomas said the DTPC Sathram situated close by the famous Sreevallabha temple was a great solace to the Sabarimala pilgrims as well as the Vaishvaites visiting the temple from different parts of the country.

Presiding over the function, the District Collector and DTPC chairman, P.B.Noohu, said more modern amenities would be extended to the Sathram complex in the next phase of development.

K.V.Varghese, Thiruvalla municipal chairman; M.P.Gopalakrishnan, V.Jijeeshkumar, municipal councillors; A. Shamsuddin, DTPC secretary; Manoj Charalel, and Jenu Mathew, governing council members, and others also spoke at the function.
