‘Telangana pushed into debt trap by the Chief Minister’
All India Congress Committee president Rahul Gandhi lashed out at the ‘corrupt’ Telangana Rashtra Samithi government led by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao and assured the public that if elected the Congress would continue all the welfare schemes, including the ones launched by the TRS government.
Taking a dig at Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao the AICC president called KCR “Khao Commission Rao” (eat commission Rao). He (KCR) looted public money by painting colours to the structures of Mission Kakatiya and Mission Bhagiratha, he said.
Addressing a well attended election meeting at Armoor on Thursday, he said that while the Chief Minister pushed the State into a debt trap by borrowing Rs. 2.20 lakh crore imposing a burden of Rs. 2.50 lakh debt on each household, his son K.T. Rama Rao’s income shot up by 400 % during the same period.
Except KCR’s family no one got any benefit and youth, students and people of Telangana who participated in the movement for the formation of the State have been left in the lurch, he said. Their beautiful dreams for the new State were dashed by KCR with his family rule, he added. If the Congress was voted to power it would establish National Turmeric Board, the long-cherished dream of farmers of the district, he promised. TPCC president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy said that KCR insulted women by not including even one woman in his Cabinet.
TJS president M. Kodandaram Reddy, balladeer Gaddar, former MP Madhu Yaskhi Goud, former MLA A. Annapoornamma and Congress nominee for Armoor and MLC Akula Lalitha spoke.
Earlier, addressing a public meeting in support of party candidate Gandra Venkataramana Reddy and D Sridhar Babu at Bhupalapalli on Thursday, Mr. Gandhi said the People’s Alliance will come to power in Telangana. “Modi at the Centre and KCR in the State have destroyed all sections of society. They diluted the Tribal Protection Bill and Land Acquisition Bill,” he said adding that the Congress government would implement them sincerely.
Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao used Singareni workers during the Telangana movement and later forgot the promises to them. The Congress government would regularise contract jobs, give dependent jobs and consider those dismissed sympathetically, Mr. Gandhi assured. Similarly, the Congress government will give land rights on podu land to tribals, set up a tribal university and deliver all promises listed in the Bifurcation Bill.
“KCR and his family were engaged in making money depriving people of their due share in welfare and development in the name of Kaleswaram project, Mission Kakatiya and Mission Bhagiratha,” Mr. Gandhi said.
Firing potshots at KCR, Mr. Gandhi said people should reject KCR who had said he would take rest if he lost. “He would sleep in a house worth Rs. 300 crore but denied people of double bedroom houses,” he quipped.
