Heavy rain continued to lash Kasaragod, virtually disrupting normal activities for the last four days.

The district has registered an average rainfall of 92.50 mm during the last 24 hours ending 10 a.m. on Thursday. The cumulative figure since the onset of monsoon touched 1,758.71 mm, official sources here said.

Two persons drowned in swollen waters in the district on Wednesday.

B. Venugopalan, 54, a casual labourer and resident of Vellikkoth in Kanhangad, drowned in a waterbody while engaged in fishing at nearby Adott.

Vellachi, 60, also met with a similar end as she ventured out to cut grass at Peralam in Pullur grama panchayat to feed cattle.

As many as 203 houses suffered damage and another 44 were destroyed in the rain-related incidents so far causing loses worth Rs. 63,47,511, they said. Standing crops suffered damage for Rs. 3,88,47,447.
