Residents who were rendered homeless due to an eviction drive carried out by the Highways Department in 2010 for widening the Velachery Main Road have finally got house allotment letters from the Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance Board.Thirty-one families were identified by the Revenue Department for getting alternative housing facilities. The families had been struggling to get accommodation all these years.
The residents approached various arms of government departments, including the Kancheepuram Collector, several times, who finally sent his recommendations to the TNSCB in November 2017.
While handing over the sanction letters issued by the Tahsildar at his office in Tambaram, MLA S.R. Raja said there were several administrative lacunae, which delayed the process.
