Victim’s kin stage protest outside Saket police station
A day after a 23-year-old employee of a restaurant at Anupam complex died of a stab wound, his family members claimed he was killed, the police said on Friday.
Hemant’s family has accused some of his colleagues of trying to hush up the incident. However, the police said they are yet to ascertain the reason behind his death.
“CCTV cameras installed inside the restaurant were out of order at the time of the incident. A knife — allegedly used in the incident — has been sent for forensic examination. We have held a few restaurant staff members for questioning to ascertain the sequence of the events,” said a police officer.
Meanwhile, Hemant’s family staged a protest at Saket police station on Friday evening demanding registration of a first information report in connection with murder. DCP (South) Vijay Kumar said the murder angle has been ruled out as per the evidence recovered.
“We have spoken to customers present at the time of the incident. They said there was no scuffle between the workers in the restaurant,” he said, adding that the eatery has an open kitchen.
Hemant’s colleagues allegedly told the police that he seemed upset on Thursday and could not concentrate on work. He was pulled up for serving wrong orders, they said. Hemant worked in the kitchen and took orders that waiters in the restaurant placed before them, the police said. His body was handed over to his family after an autopsy on Friday, they added.
