A team of forest officials seized sandalwood from two Karnataka natives allegedly involved in smuggling forest goods from a piece of forestland at Chundale under the Kalpetta range in the South Wayanad Forest Division in Wayanad on Friday.

The arrested were identified as Govinda, 55, and Basava, 57, of Bheeman Veedu near Gundlupet in Karnataka. South Wayanad divisional forest officer P. Ranjith said they were apprehended while carrying sandalwood logs to transport it in a bus to Karnataka. The officials recovered 15 pieces of sandalwood logs weighing 33 kg from them.

The accused, charged under various sections of the Kerala Forest Act 2012, would be produced before the First Class Judicial Magistrate Court, he added.
