The State police have directed that agencies offering security services register themselves with the Home Department.
In an official communique here on Monday, the police said private security agencies not in possession of a government licence should immediately procure one from the State Controlling Authority functioning under the State Special Branch (SSB).
Plea to establishments
The police would prosecute agencies that provide security services without the compulsory licence as dictated by the provisions of the Private Security Agencies (Regulation) Act, 2005.
The police urged commercial and industrial establishments and private companies and citizens to hire security personnel only from licensed agencies.
Such registered agencies should ensure that security personnel and supervisors are given the minimum wages and other benefits decided by the State Labour Department.
Security companies should only employ trained persons.
They should ensure that the uniform of the private guards does not bear even a remote resemblance to the official dress of law enforcers and armed forces and paramilitary personnel, the communique said.
