The Guduvanchery police station received a call on Sunday morning that a severed head was lying near a transformer on Rajiv Gandhi First Street in Karanaipudhucheri village.

The police found only the head on the road. Despite searching could not find any part of the body. The deceased was identified as Kamalakannan, 30, a resident of Kadaperi. He was an auto driver and had several cases of robbery and murder pending against him.

The police brought the victim’s wife Sudha, who identified the head. She told the police that she saw her husband at 11 p.m. on Saturday night, when he was leaving home after a phone call. He informed her that he would be back in an hour, but did not return home. Then, the police sent the ‘head’ to the Government Hospital in Chengalpattu and launched a hunt for the torso in nearby forest areas.
