Government High School, Raroth, near Thamarassery, will soon change to the shift system.
A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting on Wednesday, a day after a portion of the school building collapsed hours after heavy rain lashed the area. Classes for Class 10 will be held in the morning and they will have a special session in the afternoon. High school classes will be shifted to the new building once its construction is complete after the Onam holidays.
Headmistress K. Hemalatha, however, said that classes for Class 9 and Class 10 will be held from the morning on Thursday. The classes for others will start only after removing the debris from the premises.
Permission will be sought from the district administration to raze the three buildings that are in a dilapidated condition. There are 32 divisions in the school, including lower primary, upper primary and high school classes.
The construction of a new building using the funds allocated by the Kozhikode District Panchayat is on. New floors will be added to this building using the Rs. 1 crore granted by the State government.
