Shivaramu Kadanakuppe (65), retired principal of Vidyavardhaka PU College and a renowned Kannada writer and critic, passed away in the city on Thursday after a brief illness.
He authored many books in Kannada and began his literary journey through a series of critical essays about modern Kannada literature, folklore and literary criticism in the 1970s. He was also a member of the Academic Council of the University of Mysore and Syndicate. In addition, he served as member of the Karnataka Sahitya Academy and presided over the Bengaluru Gramantara Kannada Sahitya Sammelana in 2006.
Mr. Kadanakuppe was also a rationalist and this aspect was reflected in his writings as a columnist in various publications. The body was donated to JSS Hospital as per his wishes.
