Members of Shivamogga City Corporation cutting across party lines have demanded equitable allocation of funds released under Smart City Project for all 35 wards of the city.

A meeting was convened on the premises of the Corporation on Monday to review the progress of works being executed under Smart City Project.

Member N.J. Rajashekhar said that the works are being executed only in 12 wards. He said that the funds should be distributed in a judicious manner for all the 35 wards.

Priority should be accorded for the development of parks in all the wards, he added.

Mayor Nagaraj Kankari said that Shivamogga City Corporation has so far received an amount of Rs. 206 crore under the Smart City Project.

The city has 176 conservancy lanes, the total length of which is 70 kilometre. In the year 2011, a food court was developed in the conservancy lane adjacent to Gopi Circle while another conservancy lane in Tilak Nagar has been converted into a parking lot.

The funds released under Smart City Project would be used to to develop conservancy lanes into vendor zones and parking slots, he said.

Deputy Mayor Vijayalakshmi Patil and Commissioner T.V. Prakash were present at the meeting.
