The police have formed squads in all the seven police sub-divisions in the district to check eve teasing cases in schools and colleges.

Superintendent of Police Omprakash Meena launched two men and two women squads here on Thursday. Deputy Superintendents of Police inaugurated the squads at the sub-divisions. The SP came to know that cases of eve teasing were on the rise but victims failed to lodge complaints due to various reasons. Incidents of eve teasers taking pictures of girls and women were on the rise, he said. Even school teachers were not spared, he said and recalled an incident of students taking pictures of a teacher while she was writing on the board in a school here a couple of days ago.

“We have formed the squads to ensure safety of school and college girls,” he told reporters. The two-wheeler borne squads would deal with eve-teasing cases and visit schools and colleges in the morning and evening hours, he said. The squads comprising women police would be in plain clothes and monitor the cases. Before booking a person, they would confirm from the victim. The squads would travel in buses also and check the menace.

Victims could call the police in the toll free number ‘100’ and District Hello Police by contacting the Common Access Number (CAN) 83000 31100. The squads would warn the ‘Romeos’ and inform their parents before initiating criminal action. About 40% of cases would come down when the squads warned the offenders and 90% when the squads inform their parents, he said.
