The Sri City police on Monday stopped a child marriage at the nick of the moment. Parents of a 16-year-old girl had reportedly arranged the child marriage with a 25-year-old man at Matherimitta village under Sri City police limits, scheduled on Monday.
Some friends of the bride reported the matter to the area police through phone. Circle Inspector Jagadish Nayak rushed to the venue with his team and rescued the girl amid stiff resistance from the girl’s parents and relatives.
The girl was later taken to the area police station and provided temporary rehabilitation. Counselling was given to the families of the bride and the groom, apart from making them execute an undertaking against performing the child marriage. The girl’s parents are daily wagers in the industrial belt.
