Union Minister Anantkumar Hegde has said that the Centre has real concern for farmers and that is why it has announced better minimum support prices for farm produce and has not resorted to loan waivers, unlike the State government.

He was speaking after felicitating BJP MLAs at Mugat Khan Hubballi village in Belagavi district on Friday.

“The JD(S)-Congress government is not concerned about farmers’ welfare. Hence it is resorting to short-term measures like loan waiver. Congress and JD(S) leaders must understand that farmers are people with great self-respect. No farmer asks for loan waiver. They seek the right price for their produce,” he said.

“However, the BJP government at the Centre led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced higher MSP for all crops. The onus is now on the State government to open procurement centres and buy all crops whose prices are falling,” he said.

The Minister alleged that the State government was delaying and even denying the benefits of the Union government’s schemes to the common people, only to ensure that Mr. Modi does not get the credit.
