Urban Development and Housing Minister U.T. Khader on Monday directed officials to identify alternative housing sites for residents of 41 houses which have been completely damaged due to sea erosion in Ullal and Someshwara.

Chairing a meeting here on Monday, Mr. Khader asked the Mangaluru Tahsildar to quickly identify sites and make allotments to the residents who were affected by nature’s fury. The process should be completed in another 15 days, he said.

Mr. Khader said that despite sea walls, sea water has breached the walls to damage houses in Ullal, Someshwar and Sasihitlu. It is necessary to permanently move these residents away from the coast, he said.

While taking note of the one-kilometre-long sea wall in Someshwara, Mr. Khader directed officials to extend the wall for another 300 metres.

He said that the affected families have been provided temporary shelter.
