Forest officials of the Bhadradri-Kothagudem district conducted raids in the village Pandurangapuram near Paloncha and seized forest timber worth Rs. 5 lakh, a press statement has informed.

The village has been a haven for illegal smuggling of timber, and continued to remain so even after repeated warnings, the statement said.

On Tuesday, forces from territorial forestry and wildlife wing had combed the village, and seized teak, and other species of timber from terraces, backyards, and cattle sheds of the houses. Also raided were seven timber depots in Paloncha and Bhadrachalam ranges.

The raid on the village has been successful for the first time in 10 years, the note informed.
