Members of the Tirupati Chamber of Commerce (TCC) vowed to adopt each of the trees planted as part of the ‘Haritha Haram’ programme initiated by the Tirupati Urban Development Authority (TUDA). The chamber is roping in denizens, social activists and green enthusiasts who can support the cause of greening the city.
TUDA Chairman G. Narasimha Yadav formally planted a sapling in the abutting Padmavathipuram Panchayat, by involving donors who financed the project to plant 250 saplings in the posh colony. While many come forward to bear the cost of saplings, he appreciated the idea of the traders to adopt the saplings and take care of their needs.
TCC president A. Manjunath called it an example of the trading community’s social responsibility and commitment to the cause of the environment.
TUDA Vice-Chairman and MCT Commissioner V. Vijayarama Raju appealed to the public to desist from using plastic carry bags and instead make the habit of always carrying cloth bags for shopping.
Secretary K. Madhavi Latha, Sarpanch V. Ganapathi Naidu, TCC secretary P. Madhusudhan, treasurer K.V. Choudhary, and educationalists T. Damodaram and N. Viswanatha Reddy took part.
