Promotion of Malabar tourism will be the focus of the10th edition of the four-day Kerala Travel Mart (KTM) beginning in Kochi on September 27, coinciding with World Tourism Day.
“Malabar and the tourism opportunities in the northern districts were not on the radar till two years ago. The government is committed to creating the requisite infrastructure. The flight operations from Kannur later this year and KTM’s initiative will give a boost to tourism in Malabar,” Tourism Minister Kadakampally Surendran told a press conference here on Wednesday.
The mart is being organised by the KTM Society in association with Kerala Tourism. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the KTM on September 27 in Kochi.
“Representatives from 73 countries will attend the 10th edition. As many as 972 international buyers and 765 domestic buyers have registered and 424 from overseas and 911 from within the country have confirmed their participation,” he said.
President of the KTM Baby Mathew said the event would have 320 sellers compared to 261 in the ninth edition.
Secretary, Tourism, Rani George said the State government wanted more investors to come to the Malabar region.
