Truckers, on strike in Mysuru district since July 20 as part of a nation-wide stir by transport operators, have threatened to intensify their agitation from Saturday.
This was decided at a meeting on Friday where they chalked out their next course of action as the government has not heeded to their demand seeking a reduction in diesel price and uniform pricing mechanism across the country. Their demands include removal of tolls, and reduction in third party insurance premium through exemption of GST, among others.
Shankar, of Mysore District Lorry Owners’ Association, said they would prevail upon the truckers engaged in transportation of oil, diesel and LPG to join the strike from Saturday.
Nearly 4,500 trucks are off the road in Mysuru district. On Friday, traders at the APMC Yard in Bandipalya downed shutters protesting the delay in resolving the demands aired by the truckers.
