Two youths were swept away in Nanjangud, near Mysuru, and at Koppa taluk in Chikkamagaluru district in separate rain-related incidents on Tuesday.

Musafir Sharief, 28, who went for a swim in the swollen Kapila in Nanjangud was swept away in the swirling waters.

He had gone with five of his friends to the old bridge across the river when they decided to swim across to the opposite bank.

Eyewitnesses said all of them jumped from the bridge into the river and began swimming across, but Sharief was swept away.

Heavy rains continued to lash many parts of Hassan and Chikkamagaluru districts on Wednesday, affecting life.

Ashok, 21, an agricultural worker of Karemane, was washed away in a stream near Kogre village near Guddethota in Koppa taluk of Chikkamagaluru.

Ashok is believed to have fallen into the stream while crossing Hullinagadde Bridge on Horanadu-Sringeri Road late in the evening on Tuesday. He was on the way to a relative’s house at Kotethota Colony on his bike when he went missing.
