The city is bracing up for the visit of Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu on July 6.

The Vice President is scheduled to commission smart city projects and inaugurate an indoor stadium.

Another highlight of his visit will be participation in an event hosted by Pondicherry Central University, of which he is the Chancellor too.

Mr. Naidu will address the university fraternity of faculty, administrators and students at 11.30 a.m. at the Jawaharlal Nehru Auditorium of Pondicherry University.

A press note from the university said that it was significant that this was also the Vice-President’s first visit to the Central University after he assumed office.

The varsity expects some important messages from the Vice President, who has “always had a lofty mission to strengthen the youth for the nation building activity and this has been his vision ever since his student days, especially as a student leader,” the press note said.

Among the dignitaries expected to participate in the event are Lt. Governor Kiran Bedi, who is also Chief Rector of Pondicherry University, Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy, and Prof. Gurmeet Singh, University Vice-Chancellor.

A few days ago, Mr. Narayanasamy had convened a meeting to put in place security arrangements for the Vice President’s visit.
