Over The Top (OTT) player Viu is foraying into the Tamil market and has tied up with Chennai-based production house Super Talkies, which will make Tamil content focussing on millennials.

Viu is a global video on demand platform, similar to Amazon Prime and Netflix, catering to emerging markets. It is part of Hong Kong-based PCCW Media group.

“We are doing four shows with them. Each will have 13 episodes of 18 minutes each. The objective is to make content for the new-age digital audience. We are looking at creating cinema-quality content,” said Sameer Bharat Ram, director, Super Talkies Production.

Global enterprise

Vishal Maheshwari, country head of Viu, India, said, “The emphasis is on global expertise, coupled with local execution. In 2018, we are ramping up our quality originals at an exciting pace and engaging viewers in new ways, including bringing in fresh content to the Tamil market.”

One of the shows titled Madras Mansion is set against the backdrop of an old mansion in Royapettah, a hub where people from different walks of life come together, but have something in commonality — dreams.

“These bachelors aspire to be directors, actors and so on, and we will show the life of these people,” said Mr. Sameer. The second show
