Officials of Krishna Bhagya Jal Nigam Limited (KBJNL) have started releasing water from the Almatti dam to the power generation unit. This is the first release of the year where 25,000 cusecs of water is being discharged to the power unit.

Though the dam is yet to get filled, the decision to release water to the unit was taken considering the continuous inflow of water.

However, the decision with regard to release water into the canals for irrigation is yet to be taken by the government.

Meanwhile, the Irrigation Consultative Committee, headed by Health Minister Shivananda Patil, has called a meeting on Tuesday at the office of KBJNL in Almatti to finalise the decision on releasing water into the canals.

The meeting is expected to decide releasing water from midnight on the same day to help farmers who are waiting for water.
