The wife of a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan filed a habeas corpus petition before the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Tuesday claiming that her husband has gone missing.

A. Deivakani of Palayamkottai said that her husband N. Annadurai was working with the para-military force as a head constable. He was recently transferred from Gadchiroili in Maharastra to Chandigarh. Before reporting at Chandigarh, he came to Palayamkottai on a 20-day leave. She said that on June 29 he boarded the Thirukkural Express to Delhi and assured that he would call her once he reached his destination. However, he had not contacted her and when she contacted him the phone was switched off, she said.

When the CRPF officer in Chandigarh was notified, she was informed that his luggage had reached Delhi but he was missing. However, she claimed that an anonymous caller said that her husband was safe but refused to give details.

She said that a petition was sent to the Tirunelveli Collector and Commissioner of Police and it was referred to the Palayamkottai police station. She sought a direction to the authorities concerned to take immediate action to secure her husband.

A division bench of Justices C. T. Selvam and A. M. Basheer Ahamed directed notice to the authorities concerned and adjourned the case by two weeks.
