A woman was killed on the spot and four suffered serious injuries after a truck driver ploughed into them at Amminbhavi village in Dharwad taluk on Thursday.
The names of the deceased was given as Basavva Talwar (37), a resident of Amminbhavi village.
The injured persons, Zakir Hussain Mulla (35), Renuka Hombal (35), Mallikarjun Hanumanthappa Navalur (40) and Riyaz Khan (40), were shifted to the civil hospital.
Later, three were shifted to the Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS), while the four person has been admitted to a private hospital.
The condition of those undergoing treatment at KIMS is said to be critical.
According to the police, the truck that was heading towards Saundatti from Dharwad, ploughed into the five people who were standing off the road waiting for a bus.
The truck driver fled the scene after the incident. A search has been launched for him.
A case was registered at the Dharwad Rural Police Station.
