Five accused in the case related to preventing authorities from taking possession of the house and property of Preetha Shaji have approached the Kerala High Court seeking bail.

The accused, Manual, V.C. Jenny, Prakash, Vijeesh and Jayakumar, were booked by invoking various provisions of the Explosive Substances Act, Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, unlawful assembly, and rioting armed with deadly weapon, following the resistance against the attachment of the house and property.

The property and house were put up for auction under the Securitisation and Reconstruction of Financial Assets and Enforcement of Securities Interest (SARFAESI) Act and the High Court ordering police protection for executing the warrant. The move met with large-scale public resistance.

The bail applications of the accused were earlier denied by the Judicial First Class Magistrate, Kalamassery. The decision of the magistrate in denying them the bail was illegal, erroneous, and amounted to abuse of process of law, they contended. The petition will be considered next week.
