Minister of State for Railways Rajen Gohain has assured N.K. Premachandran, MP, that the second terminal of the Kollam railway station along with the works on lift, escalator, and foot overbridge will be completed on time.

Answering a question raised by the MP at the Lok Sabha recently, the Minister said the fence and entrance with illuminated board to the new terminal were also nearing completion. The fence and entrance were being constructed using the local area development fund of the Kollam MP. A major portion of the works, including the roofing of platforms, construction of air-conditioned waiting room, emergency medical aid centre, new parcel office, and the renovation of old building have been completed.

RRSK funds

“Ninety per cent of the construction and renovation work is over.

The construction of booking office, circuit area, and parking facility is currently on the last phase. A foot overbridge connecting all platforms will also be constructed using Rashtriya Rail Sanaraksha Kosh (RRSK) funds,” he said. The Minister also added that funds would also be raised from various agencies for the development work.

The new entry point opposite Craven School at Chinnakkada along the Kollam-Thirumangalam National Highway will have booking offices and parking lots for two- and four-wheelers along with a circuit area.
