A youth and his newly-wed younger sister were killed near Kadayanallur on Friday.
The police said shopkeeper Paramasivan of Mela Kadayanallur had taken his daughter P. Hemalatha, 23, son-in-law Selvaraj of Surandai, who married the girl 10 days ago, and son P. Sundara Balaji, 24, to a temple at Ilathur to offer prayers. While returning home, Sundara Balaji and Hemalatha rode a motorcycle and Paramasivan and his son-in-law Selvaraj rode the other two-wheeler. A speeding Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation bus, proceeding from Madurai to Shencottai, hit the two-wheeler of the brother-sister duo at Mangalapuram intersection in which they were killed on the spot.
Since both the vehicles involved in the collision were reportedly driven at high speed, the motorcycle hit the radiator of the bus violently. Only after Fire and Rescue Rervices personnel arrived at the spot, the bodies could be retrieved and sent to Tenkasi Government Hospital for postmortem.
According to Sulaiman of Kadayanallur, this is the second gory accident at this spot in a span of six months. In the earlier accident, four persons of a family travelling in a van were killed on the spot at the Mangalapuram intersection.
A dangerous curve at this spot hides a clear view of oncoming vehicles in both directions. Either speed-breakers should be erected or metal barricades placed on either side of the curve to limit the speed of vehicles. Only then accidents could be averted, he said.
