The importance of achieving increased voter turnout, particularly among young and first-time voters, was stressed during the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) activities organised by the district administration with the participation of students from Yadava College here on Thursday.

A statement issued by the district administration said that around 1,300 students participated in the programme, which included a variety of activities highlighting the need for increased voter participation.

Collector S. Natarajan, who inspected and took part in the campaign, appealed to the students to ensure that their family members, relatives and friends also exercised their right to vote in the parliamentary election on April 18.

The Collector and students released balloons carrying slogans on the importance of voting. The students later took out a rally from Iyer Bungalow junction to Yadava College.

On the college premises, a signature campaign was organised as part of which the students pledged to not only vote in the elections but also ensure that their friends and relatives voted.
