Following a plea seeking directions against the operation of stone crushers near schools in Mahendergarh, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) has constituted a joint committee to look into the pollution allegations and furnish an action taken report on the same.

A Bench headed by NGT chairperson Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel said, “Let a joint committee of Central Pollution Control Board, Haryana State Pollution Control Board and the District Magistrate, Mahendergarh to look into the matter and furnish a factual and action-taken report within one month.”

The Bench also specified that the State pollution control board will be the nodal agency for coordination and compliance of the directions passed by the tribunal.

The directions came when the green panel was hearing a plea moved by petitioner Bishamber Singh against the operation of stone crushers that are violating requisite norms.

“The stone crushers are adjacent to a school, health centre and the Aravali plantation…operation of the stone crushers is causing air pollution and illegal groundwater extraction,” the plea had alleged.
